How it Works

If you have female pattern baldness, even without a family history of hair loss, then minoxidil may be effective for you. Female pattern baldness is marked by overall thinning of the crown, or the top of your head (as opposed to crown and hairline commonly seen in male pattern baldness). If your hair loss is sudden, patchy or extreme, get in touch with a medical provider for further assessment first.

Hair regrowth with minoxidil takes time. Continued use 2 times a day for at least 3-6 months is usually when new hair growth becomes noticeable. At first, new hair may be soft and colorless hairs or "peach fuzz" but with time, they should become the same color and thickness as the other hairs on your scalp.

Common side effects include itching and other skin irritations of the treated area of the scalp. 2% minoxidil topical solution contains alcohol, which can irritate eyes or other sensitive skin areas. If accidental contact with a sensitive area occurs, rinse with large amounts of cool tap water. Contact your doctor if irritation persists.

Increased hair shedding may last for a couple of weeks after starting minoxidil. Don't worry! This is temporary and is a sign that minoxidil is working for you. If you continue losing hair after a month of use, stop using minoxidil and get in touch with a healthcare provider.

To keep the new hair that you grew with the help of minoxidil, you must continue using it. Once you stop using minoxidil, the normal hair loss process will start up again, including your newly grown hair.

Yes. Keep your usual hair care routine with one caveat: after shampooing/conditioning and thoroughly drying your hair, apply minoxidil and allow it to dry before applying other other styling aids.

For best results, allow minoxidil to remain on the scalp for 4 hours before getting your head wet.

Yes. For external use only. Flammable. Ask a doctor before use if you have heart disease, use blood pressure medication or are breast-feeding. Keep out of reach of children. If swallowed, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center right away.

Do not use if:

  • your degree of hair loss is very high because this product may not work for you
  • your hair loss is sudden and/or patchy
  • you do not know the reason for your hair loss
  • you are under 18 years of age. Do not use on babies and children.
  • your scalp is red, inflamed, infected, irritated, or painful
  • you use other medicines on the scalp

When using this product

  • do not apply on other parts of the body
  • avoid contact with the eyes. In case of accidental contact, rinse eyes - with large amounts of cool tap water.
  • some people have experienced changes in hair color and/or texture
  • it takes time to regrow hair. You may need to use this product 2 times a day for at least 3-6 months before you see results.
  • the amount of hair regrowth is different for each person.
  • immediately wipe away any excess solution from areas where you don’t want hair regrowth, including face, ears, etc.

This product will not work for everyone.

Stop use and ask a doctor if:

  • chest pain, rapid heartbeat, faintness, or dizziness occurs
  • sudden, unexplained weight gain occurs
  • your hands or feet swell
  • scalp irritation or redness occurs
  • unwanted facial hair growth occurs
  • you do not see hair regrowth in 6 months
